You must be a Member of Ealing u3a to take part in an Interest Group
The group meets in person at a venue in the Ealing Broadway area. Meetings take place from 3:00pm normally on the last Friday of each month though this may occasionally be adjusted.
All Ealing U3A members with an interest in, and/or knowledge of science or technology, are welcome to join the Science Group. You don't have to be a scientist to join, but just have a curiosity about the world around us. Although there is a wait list currently, please contact the Convenors using the details above on this page if you are interested in joining.
The group operates by means of presentations, discussion and joint enquiry. Recent topics have included:
- 3D printing introductory talk and a demonstration of a filament extrusion 3D printer;
- 'Revolutions in science', which examined the six major 'paradigm' changes in physics from ancient times to recent times;
- Diabetes and weight loss drugs;
- The Energy Transition from Fossil Fuels to Renewables;
- Recent Advances in Immunotherapy for Cancer treatment;
- Women in Science (introductions to women in science with contributions from a number of members)
- Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology/Medicine.
When time allows, each meeting provides the opportunity for members to provide updates on Science in the News (in books or journals, online etc). All members are encouraged to contribute items to this and to discussions in general.
Members with significant experience in a branch of science or technology who can contribute their expertise and knowledge in a presentation to the group are especially welcome to join.
Joint Conveners: Jill Clayton and Claire Corbett, email through the link above on this page.
