You must be a Member of Ealing u3a to take part in an Interest Group
Classical Literature Group
This group aims to ‘Look at the Classics’ and is focussing initially on the period of the Trojan Wars referencing Greek sources and modern archaeological discoveries and then Odysseus’ return home. Currently, the group is looking at 'The Odyssey', the 9th century BCE epic poem of Homer, and later may focus on the works of the 7th century BCE such as 'Jason and the Argonauts', 'The Ilyad' and works by Hesiod. Later plans include 5th century BCE history plays.
Modern books and podcasts may also be helpful to members of the group, eg. Natalie Haynes podcast and BBC Radio 4 programme (Standing up for the Classics) and Stephen Fry's recent books retelling the ancient Greek myths of the Gods (Mythos, Heroes, Troy, Odyssey). It is expected that Group members will contribute their own knowledge of the topics or research them.
The group meets in a public venue in South Ealing at 2:00 pm on the second Thursday of the month.
