Title: Economic growth and related themes
Speaker: Dr Parviz Dabir-Alai
This presentation will cover several themes from development economics and sourced from reflections based on a career spanning almost 40 years. Dr Dabir-Alai will attempt to bring together insights on how issues such as political spheres of influence, market share, economic growth, George Orwell and transparency at the World Bank all fit in with one another.
Dr Parviz Dabir-Alai who is an Ealing U3A member, worked as an academic economist for more than 40 years and is currently Emeritus Professor of Economics at Richmond University. He has held short-term visiting professorships at Skidmore College and at Tulane University, both in the United States, and at the Delhi School of Economics in India. He has taught at universities in the West Indies and beyond. Nowadays he edits an academic journal, works with an organisation focusing on wellbeing research and occasionally consults. Otherwise, he is mostly retired.
